Most people have a basic understanding of AmeriCorps, but few realize how innovative and diverse the programs are. In areas from disaster relief to education, Corps members are developing the creative new approaches needed to fight poverty in the 21st century. I wanted to make a video that gives a personal, first-hand look at the digital literacy work we’re doing with youth in northern California. A year ago, I would have never imagined that working as a VISTA could involve digital video, community media, and technology training for teens! My service is just one small example, of course, and I hope that people who watch the video will be inspired to check out the many other exciting and cutting-edge AmeriCorps programs across the country.
